# Managing Pricing Rules and Resolving Conflicts

Learn how to manage overlapping rules, resolve warnings and understand pricing rule limits.

You can create multiple Pricing Rules to offer different discounts across your store.

For example, you might have separate rules for wholesale products, seasonal collections and general storewide pricing.

There are a few important things to know when managing multiple rules.

## Can Pricing Rules Overlap?

Yes. Products can be covered by different types of rules, and the app automatically uses the most specific one.

For example, a collection rule can take priority over an **"All products"** rule.

However, some combinations aren't allowed.

### Rules That Cannot Overlap

- You can only have **one active "All products" rule**.

- A collection can only be included in **one active collection rule**.

- A product or variant can only belong to **one active "Specific products" rule**.

For example, you can't select an entire product in one specific-products rule and then select one of its variants in another active specific-products rule.

## What Happens If There's a Conflict?

If you try to save a rule that conflicts with another active rule, you'll see a red warning banner explaining the problem.

Conflicting items are marked with an **"In “<rule>”"** badge.

You can click **"Open “<rule>”"** to view the existing rule causing the conflict.

You can then adjust the products, variants or collections selected in either rule.

**Tip:** Give your rules distinct, descriptive names. This makes it much easier to identify conflicts when managing several rules.

## Common Warnings

### "Checkout not updated yet"

Your rule has been saved successfully, but Shopify hasn't finished updating the collections used by checkout.

Click **"Retry"** to try again.

You can also return to **Pricing Rules** later, when the app will automatically retry the update.

### "This pricing rule was changed somewhere else after you opened it. Reload the page to see the latest version."

This can happen when two people are editing the same rule.

Reload the page to view the latest saved version before making further changes.

### "Storage limit"

Pricing Rules share a limited amount of storage.

If you exceed the available space, the app won't save the rule and will show a storage limit error.

As a rough guide, the available storage can accommodate:

- Around 200 products in a single rule

- Around 170 individual variants in a single rule

- Around 20 rules, depending on their size

These are estimates, not fixed limits. The actual capacity depends on the number of products, variants, tiers and other information stored.

## Collection Limits

You can select up to **20 collections in total across all active collection rules**.

Collection rules are designed for baskets containing approximately 75 line items.

Very large baskets involving many collections may exceed Shopify's function processing limits.

## What Happens If You Downgrade Your Plan?

Pricing Rules require the **Pro Plan**.

If you downgrade, your existing rules remain saved, but they stop applying at checkout and will no longer appear through the Volume Pricing Widget.

Variant-level pricing also stops applying.

Your saved rules remain available if you return to the Pro plan.
